Steve Kerr says that when his Warriors contract ran out this spring, he was not certain he was still the right fit, or that Golden State wanted him back.

What Kerr said

“I wasn’t sure if I was still the right person or whether they wanted me back,” Kerr told Frank Isola on SiriusXM NBA Radio on Wednesday.

What Kerr said

Kerr said the relationship between the front office, coaching staff and players is why he returned: “It just became an easy decision once everything clarified.”

How it played out

After the season ended with a loss in Phoenix, Kerr said in April his time could be ending. The sides spent about three weeks weighing a split.

How it played out

Golden State announced a new two-year deal on May 12, keeping Kerr on the bench through the 2027-28 season.
