Bucks open to a Jaime Jaquez Jr. extension before Oct. 19

The story
Milwaukee has until Monday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m. Central to extend Jaime Jaquez Jr. or let him head toward restricted free agency next summer.
How he got here
Jaquez arrived in the offseason trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami. GM Jon Horst says the Bucks are open to extension talks anyway.
The number that matters
Jaquez’s cap hold next summer is $17.8 million. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Jim Owczarski floated $15 million to $18 million a year as a realistic range.
Why he earned the call
He was Sixth Man of the Year runner-up with the Heat, one of four players since 1982-83 to average 15 points, five rebounds and four assists off the bench.
A cap-neutral idea
ESPN’s Bobby Marks proposed four years and $78.8 million, starting at the $17.8 million cap-hold figure and ending with a player option.
Why Milwaukee might wait
New coach Taylor Jenkins could see how Jaquez fits first. Without a deal, the Bucks still hold matching rights in restricted free agency.
