Matt Guokas Jr. made his debut for the Philadelphia 76ers against the New York Knicks at Convention Hall.
First father-son in the NBA
NBA.com’s archive notes it was the first father-son combination in the league: Matt Sr. had played for Philadelphia in the 1940s and was calling Sixers games by 1966.
Efficient debut night
Guokas played 16 minutes, made 3 of 4 shots, added a free throw and finished with 7 points, 2 rebounds and an assist.
Wilt took over
Philadelphia won 128-112. Wilt Chamberlain had 28 points and 21 rebounds; Chet Walker scored 25, Hal Greer 19 and Billy Cunningham 15.
Knicks couldn’t keep up
Dave Stallworth had 24 and Howard Komives 22 for New York, but the Sixers controlled the night that opened a new family chapter.
