The Bulls signed Scottie Pippen to his rookie contract. The wire listed him as "Scott Pippin."

The draft-night trade

Seattle drafted Pippen fifth, and Chicago sent Olden Polynice and picks to the Sonics to get him.

An unusual deal

The package ran more than $5 million over six years, four guaranteed, with deferred money.

A modest start

As a rookie he averaged 7.9 points in 79 games, mostly off the bench.

What followed

Six championships with Michael Jordan, the Hall of Fame and his No. 33 in the rafters.
