NBA Africa will build or renovate 55 courts across the DRC by 2030, matching Mutombo's jersey number.

The first court opened Sept. 29 at Cercle Onatra in Kinshasa, where Mutombo first played organized basketball.

The second court will open in Mbuji-Mayi, Mutombo's hometown, in the coming weeks.

Quest Water Global is the NBA's Official Infrastructure Development Partner in the DRC under the deal.

The project counts toward NBA Africa's goal of 1,000 courts across the continent over 10 years.
