Cut or trade: what the last roster spots will cost the Bucks, Lakers, Grizzlies and Hornets

Oct 15, 2026

Deadline: Monday, 5 p.m. ET

Every team must be down to 15 standard contracts by Oct. 19. A waived guaranteed salary is still paid in full and stays on the books as dead money.

Bucks: one free cut

Pete Nance's $2,537,526 deal is non-guaranteed, so cutting him by Saturday costs nothing. Caris LeVert ($14.8M) or Kyle Kuzma (about $20M) would be expensive.

Lakers: one too many

The Lakers have 16 guaranteed deals. Dalton Knecht ($4.2M), Jaden Hardy, Jarred Vanderbilt and Bronny James have been named as possible outgoing pieces.

Grizzlies: the dead-money leader

Memphis already carries more than $34M in 2026-27 dead money. Waiving Micah Peavy and Kris Murray would push that past $41M.

Hornets: keep Connaughton?

Pat Connaughton's $3.8M is non-guaranteed, the cheapest cut. Charlotte values his leadership, so the 16th spot may come from guaranteed money instead.
