Tarris Reed Jr. on scoring over Wembanyama: ‘You end up shooting like a moon ball’

The preseason’s top rebounder

Spurs rookie Tarris Reed Jr. has 38 rebounds in 71 preseason minutes, the most in the league.

“That’s a given, man”

Asked how often Victor Wembanyama blocks him in practice, Reed laughed. Going against him every day has taught him a lot.

A moon ball

“You end up shooting like a moon ball and hoping and praying it goes in,” Reed said of shooting over Wembanyama’s reach.

Still thinking about 20

He grabbed 17 rebounds in 24 minutes at Utah on Oct. 12. “I could have got 20, 25,” he said two days later.

More space, good and bad

Reed said the extra spacing in the NBA cuts both ways, with elite guards able to get downhill whenever they want.

Against Phoenix

In the 123-103 win over the Suns on Oct. 14, he had four points, nine rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes.

Whatever the role is

“These guys made the Finals last year without any of us,” Reed said. “At the end of the day, it’s all about winning.”
