Oct 15, 2026

Newest shareholder

On Oct. 8, Atlético de Madrid announced Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had joined its ownership group. The club did not disclose how much he paid or what percentage he holds.

What he said

“This is a club with a long-standing presence at the top of European football, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of its future,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

Apollo’s club

Apollo Sports Capital closed a majority stake (~55%) in March 2026 at about €2.5 billion valuation. Quantum Pacific (~25%), Gil Marín and Cerezo remain.

Ciudad del Deporte

Atlético is building a ~€350 million sports and entertainment district next to the Metropolitano. The stadium hosts the 2027 Champions League final.

NBA Europe angle

Madrid is one of 12 target cities for the proposed NBA-FIBA European league. Apollo has been linked to early financing talks — no bid yet, and Real Madrid basketball is the favorite.

Among NBA soccer owners

He joins LeBron (Liverpool/FSG), Durant (PSG), Nash and Kerr (Mallorca), Kidd (Everton), Westbrook (Leeds) and others — most as small minority checks.
