The story
The New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers open the 2026-27 season against each other at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, October 20, at 7 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, and both clubs spent the last two days before tip-off setting the scene.
The story
New York raises its 2025-26 championship banner before the game, and the night is LeBron James's first regular-season game for Philadelphia. Monday was also NBA Jersey Day, so the official accounts mixed hype reels with jersey content. These seven clips are the best of it.
The Knicks start the title defense
New York's hype reel opens on the champion's crest and makes the point in two words: the goal has not changed.

For a club that waited half a century for its last title, the message to the locker room is that the banner is a starting line, not a finish.
Jalen Brunson in black and white
The Knicks put the No. 11 front and center in a short black-and-white film on Sunday. Jalen Brunson is still the engine of everything Mike Brown runs, and Philadelphia's first problem on Tuesday is how to keep him out of the paint late in the clock.
LeBron James on his first camp in Philadelphia
The 76ers' All-Access episode from training camp sits down with James in a Sixers sweatshirt, a sight that still takes some getting used to in his 24th season.

The 76ers grade their new uniforms
For Jersey Day, Philadelphia had its players describe this season's threads on camera.

It is light content, but it is also a look at a locker room that has changed a lot since last spring, and at who the club is putting in front of fans in week one.
VJ Edgecombe makes a fan's night
The league's own Jersey Day promotion went back to a moment from last season, when VJ Edgecombe gave a young fan in a Sixers jersey a memory to keep.

The second-year guard is now part of a much bigger Philadelphia backcourt story, and Tuesday at the Garden is his first test of it.
New York's own Jersey Day post
The Knicks answered with a quick jersey clip of their own on Monday. The details matter less than the timing: the club is leaning into the champion's look one day before the banner goes up.
Rumble delivers jerseys in Oklahoma City
The late game on Tuesday sends the Thunder to San Antonio for a rematch of last spring's Western Conference finals, and before that Rumble the Bison spent Jersey Day surprising young patients at a children's hospital with jerseys.

It is the kind of community stop teams make before the schedule takes over their weeks.
What comes next
Philadelphia visits New York on Tuesday, October 20, at 7 p.m. ET; follow it in the Game Center. The 76ers then host Cleveland on Thursday, October 22, and the Knicks travel to Boston on Friday, October 23. The full first week is in our opening-week schedule.
