Tatum: NBA Europe clubs profitable by Year 3

Oct 20, 2026

“Doesn’t affect our plans”

NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum said the EuroLeague’s new 10-year business plan does not change the NBA’s European league.

Profit by the third season

“Our average permanent team in our league is projected to be profitable by year 3,” Tatum said.

Multi-billions for clubs

The NBA expects to send “multi-billions of dollars” back to clubs over the first decade. The EuroLeague projects €3.4 billion over 10 years.

Teams coming ‘soon’

“We definitely expect to begin announcing teams soon as agreements get finalized,” Tatum said. “This is a historic moment; we have to do it right.”

Not waiting on a deal

“We’re not stopping,” he said. The plan is to start rolling out NBA Europe in October 2027, with or without a EuroLeague agreement.

16 clubs, a merit pathway

Twelve clubs get permanent places and four spots are earned on the court, with a second division feeding the top tier.
