The Detroit Pistons will be without their All-NBA center for a while. Jalen Duren has been diagnosed with a strained right hamstring and will be reevaluated in two weeks, the team announced Sunday.
Duren suffered the injury in the second quarter of Friday’s game at Miami and appeared on Saturday’s injury report with the strain. He was already ruled out for Sunday’s game in Philadelphia.
A two-week reevaluation timeline is not a return date: teams typically take a cautious approach with soft-tissue injuries because of the risk of re-injury, so he could be out longer.
Duren, 22, is coming off his first All-Star selection and a third-team All-NBA spot after averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 70 games last season.
He re-signed with Detroit on a five-year, $200 million contract at the start of October after a contentious restricted-free-agent negotiation that cost him part of training camp and the preseason.
He had 22 points and nine rebounds in Tuesday’s comeback win over Boston and four points, six rebounds and three assists in 10 minutes on Friday before leaving the game.
