Silver: Eight champions in eight years

Oct 20, 2026

Nobody knows who wins

“Eight different champions over the last eight years, it says so much about the level of competition,” Adam Silver said Monday.

“So many teams” believe

“It’s why I think this is one of the most anticipated seasons, because there’s so many teams that believe they have a shot this year.”

No repeat since 2018

No team has repeated since Golden State in 2017 and 2018. The Knicks became the eighth different champion in June.

“A real sort of global flavor”

Silver praised Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as “very worldly” stars of a league with global reach.

Banner night glow

“All the 20-year-olds who say, ‘We waited 53 years,’” Silver said of the Knicks before their first banner since 1973.

LeBron at nearly 42

Silver called LeBron James playing as a top All-Star at almost 42 “quite incredible” and “great for the 76ers.”
