The story

MIAMI — Oct. 14, 2026 — Giannis Antetokounmpo wants Miami to know he is still the same dad who shops for his kids, even after a blockbuster move that made him the face of the Heat.

The story

On his brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo’s Thanalysis Show, he described a Costco run that went viral — and the moment Heat president Pat Riley proved he had seen it.

The story

“I’m a dad. I’m a regular guy. Like I go to Costco and I try to get stuff,” Antetokounmpo said. “I had people coming up to me like, ‘What are you doing here?’ And I was like, ‘I’m just trying to feed my kids.’”

Riley already knew

The punchline arrived at practice. Antetokounmpo said Riley walked up and referenced the grocery trip before the forward realized the clip had spread online.

Riley already knew

“But the craziest thing for me is … I walked in practice and Pat Riley came up to me was like, ‘Oh yeah, I saw you went to Costco,’” Antetokounmpo said. “You hear stories about Pat Riley that he runs the city. He knows everything like about Costco.

And then I realized that it went viral.”

ClutchPoints and Eurohoops both flagged the Costco exchange as part of the same Thanalysis conversation that also covered Antetokounmpo’s jersey change and his early days in South Florida.

Fastbreak summarized the Riley moment as a lighter look at the Heat president’s reputation for knowing what happens around the franchise.

In the same podcast stretch, Antetokounmpo said he rode in a U-Haul to a Heat practice while he was still moving in.

He joked with a Miami staffer who helps players with logistics, inviting him to “come check my ride,” only for the reply to land on Bentley and Rolls-Royce — until the truck came into view.

“He’s like, ‘Man, this guy’s weird.’ Like, hey, this is who I am,” Antetokounmpo said, in comments circulated with the Costco clip.

Antetokounmpo said he asked the person to stop, and that while fan interactions have mostly been positive, that episode crossed a line — a “one in a billion” bad moment, in his words via ClutchPoints.
