One Friday, three cities

On Oct. 26, 1984, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and John Stockton played their first NBA games in their teams’ season openers.

Jordan: a quiet 16

Jordan shot 5 for 16 in a 109-93 win over Washington: 16 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks and 5 turnovers in 40 minutes.

Then 37

Three nights later, against Milwaukee at Chicago Stadium, Jordan scored 37 on 13-of-24 shooting with six steals in a 116-110 win.

Barkley off the bench

Behind Julius Erving and Moses Malone, Barkley scored 11 in 27 minutes as Philadelphia beat Cleveland 111-101 at the Spectrum.

Stockton in the Kingdome

Stockton had 4 points and 5 assists in 17 minutes as Utah lost 102-94 at Seattle in front of 7,117.

One night later

No. 1 pick Hakeem Olajuwon scored 24 with 9 rebounds at Dallas. No. 2 pick Sam Bowie had 4 points off the bench in Kansas City.

What the class became

Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley and Stockton all reached the Hall of Fame. Stockton still holds the career assists and steals records.
