Two debuts, one night

On Oct. 21, 1976, the Buffalo Braves beat Milwaukee 133-112 at the MECCA Arena. Their box score included rookie Adrian Dantley and 21-year-old Moses Malone.

Dantley’s grind

Dantley played 40 minutes, made only 3 of 15 shots but went 9-of-11 at the line for 15 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, the most of anyone on the floor.

Malone’s four minutes

Malone played four minutes and did not take a shot. Buffalo had acquired him from Portland only three days earlier.

Gone in six days

After two games and six total minutes, the Braves traded Malone to Houston on Oct. 24, 1976, for two first-round picks.

The one that got away

Malone grabbed a league-high 437 offensive rebounds that season and helped Houston reach the conference finals. Buffalo finished 30-52.

Rookie of the Year, then traded

Dantley averaged 20.3 points and won Rookie of the Year. On Sept. 1, 1977, Buffalo sent him to Indiana for Billy Knight.

Two Hall of Fame careers

Malone won three MVPs and a title in 1983. Dantley won two scoring titles and scored 23,177 points. Both are in the Hall of Fame.
