Thunder rookie Otega Oweh out for season after right Achilles rupture

Oct 14, 2026

Season over after surgery

Thunder PR said Otega Oweh will miss all of 2026-27 after rupturing his right Achilles. Dr. Martin O’Malley operated Wednesday at HSS in New York.

How it happened

Oweh planted on defense in Tuesday’s 114-112 overtime win over Indiana, collapsed and grabbed his right ankle. He needed help to the locker room.

Daigneault called it tough

Coach Mark Daigneault said the situation was ‘really tough’ for Oweh after the game, before the official diagnosis landed Wednesday night.

Second setback already

Oklahoma City took Oweh 41st in 2026 on a two-way deal. A left foot injury ended his Summer League after only two games.

What comes next

Rehab and a return timetable beyond this season will come later. The Thunder open the regular season with wing depth, but without this two-way guard.
