PHILADELPHIA — Oct. 14, 2026 — LeBron James’s New York–to–Philadelphia commute is now a business story as much as a logistics one.

Front Office Sports reported that James has been riding a Fanatics-branded helicopter under an aviation perk written into his multiyear trading-card deal, and Pulitzer-winning reporter Pablo Torre says he is looking into the arrangement after tips from NBA owners.

Colin Salao and Daniel Roberts of Front Office Sports wrote that James is not paying out of pocket for flights between Manhattan and the Philadelphia area while he plays for the 76ers.

A Fanatics source told them the rides come through corporate aviation included in the trading-card partnership James signed in January 2024.

A spokesperson for James confirmed that framing to Front Office Sports, saying access to Fanatics corporate aviation is a feature in many of the company’s deals with its largest athletes and that the sides appreciate the partnership as James splits time between New York and Philadelphia.

Flight records cited by Front Office Sports showed about a dozen round trips between the cities in roughly a week. The outlet put a one-way charter in the $4,000 to $10,000 range and said the flight cuts a 90-minute to two-hour drive to about 30 minutes.

The value of James’s Fanatics deal was not disclosed.

At a Front Office Sports Tuned In event, Torre told Roberts he is “very interested” and looking into the story after owners sent him the reporting and asked what it was.

Torre, whose podcast previously covered salary-cap circumvention allegations involving the Clippers, framed the helicopter perk as a business story that may or may not become a league-rules story.

He has not announced findings of a league investigation, and Front Office Sports has not reported that the NBA opened a formal probe.

Rival clubs are sensitive because Fanatics founder Michael Rubin previously held a minority stake in the 76ers.

James signed a two-year, $8 million deal with Philadelphia in July and is due a career-low about $3.87 million this season, while Front Office Sports has separately reported a Polymarket endorsement near $15 million a year.

That mix of a small NBA salary and large off-court deals is what makes owners compare the optics to other off-court benefit questions, even when the aviation clause predates James’s signing with the Sixers.
