Rudy Gobert has one piece of advice for LaMelo Ball as the Timberwolves build their new pick-and-roll partnership: slow down.

“You don’t need to go fast; I’m going to give you an advantage. You can walk,” Gobert told Timberwolves reporter Dane Moore.

Gobert told Ball to watch clips of his pick-and-rolls with Joe Ingles in Utah, where Ingles used the screen patiently to open lobs and pocket passes.

Ball has spent his career pushing tempo. If he lets the screen develop, Minnesota can create cleaner looks for Anthony Edwards and the weak-side shooters.

Chris Finch says Ball is “always in a great mood” and that a team once called moody has “traded moodiness for giddiness.”

The Wolves host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night, another preseason test for the Ball-Gobert two-man game.
