Wolves keep Kaufman-Renn’s rights as he joins Kansas

Back to college

Kansas announced Monday that former Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn, the No. 59 pick in June, has enrolled and joined the Jayhawks.

A court fight first

After five years at Purdue, he won a restraining order in September and a preliminary injunction this month. The NCAA is expected to appeal.

A late opening

He takes the place of freshman Grant Mordini, who suffered a season-ending knee injury, and began practicing on Sunday.

“Extremely well-drilled”

“Because of his basketball IQ, we think his transition will be quicker than most,” Kansas coach Bill Self said.

Nothing lost for Minnesota

Kaufman-Renn was never signed, so he uses no roster spot or cap space, and the Wolves keep his rights.

A new kind of stash

Teams have stashed picks overseas for decades. A college stash is new, and it exists only because of the eligibility fight.
