The Washington Wizards beat the Chicago Bulls 124-120 at the United Center on Saturday, October 24, spoiling Chicago's home opener with a 40-20 third quarter and then holding on at the free-throw line.
Rookie Caleb Wilson carried the Bulls with 30 points and 14 rebounds, while Trae Young led Washington with 25 points, nine assists and a perfect 9-for-9 at the line. These are the moments the two clubs and the league posted from the night.
Game Center: Wizards at Bulls, box score and play-by-play
Chicago led 62-57 at halftime and Wilson already had a game-high 17. Plays like this one, beating everybody down the floor after a stop, were how the Bulls built their early 10-point cushion.
Buzelis was the second engine of Chicago's offense, finishing with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. This dunk came while the Bulls still controlled the first half.
Sarr needed only seven shots for 10 points and added three of Washington's seven blocks, a 7-1 edge that kept the Bulls from living in the paint.
Coulibaly scored only seven points, but this is the play people will remember from his night. The slam fit a Washington team that outscored Chicago 35 to 28 in two-point makes.
Down 21 early in the fourth, the Bulls clawed back with a 10-0 run and kept coming. Back-to-back threes from their two young forwards turned a comfortable finish into a one-possession game for the Wizards.
Wilson scored seven points in the last 1:25, the first 30-point game and first double-double of his career, but Washington made its free throws. Young went 4-for-4 in the final seconds to seal the Wizards' second win in three games.
The Wizards visit the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, October 26, at 7 p.m. ET (Wizards-Hornets Game Center). The Bulls, now 1-2, play the Boston Celtics in Boston the same night at 7:30 p.m. ET (Bulls-Celtics Game Center). Read the full story in our Wizards-Bulls recap.
