Boston improved to 7-2 and 2-0 in the Cup. Charlotte fell to 3-7 and 0-2. The Celtics have won seven of eight.
Tatum shot 9-of-16 and 5-of-8 from three with a perfect 11-of-11 from the line in 29 minutes. He poured in 18 points in the first quarter alone. White went 6-of-10 with four threes. Payton Pritchard scored 12 with 5 assists off the bench, and Boston drained 24 threes on 44 attempts (55 percent).
How it turned
There was no drama. Boston led 40-20 after one and 70-39 at halftime, then 96-57 after three. The Celtics made 9-of-17 threes in the opening quarter and 17-of-31 from deep before the break. Charlotte shot 29 percent for the game and 11-of-50 from three. Boston’s largest lead reached 46.
Tatum stayed on the floor into the final minute of the third with the Celtics up more than 40 as Boston padded Cup point differential. A pro-Celtics crowd chanted “MVP!” after a long three that was waved off when officials ruled the foul was on the floor. Sam Hauser added 9 with three threes. Mitchell Robinson and Luka Garza combined for 12 points and 14 rebounds off the bench.

Naz Reid led Charlotte with 14 points. Tidjane Salaun scored 13 and Sion James 11 off the bench. Brandon Miller was limited to 8 points in 14 minutes. Starters Coby White, Grayson Allen and Ryan Kalkbrenner combined for 11 points on 2-of-14 shooting. The Hornets played without Dennis Schroder, Moussa Diabate, Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams.

The numbers
Boston assisted on 33 baskets, blocked 8 shots and scored 16 fast-break points. Charlotte managed 18 assists and turned it over 17 times. The Celtics outrebounded the Hornets 51-43. Attendance was 19,586.
Charlotte’s side
