Brooklyn scored the first basket on a Randle jumper and led 11-5 early. Then Miller took over. He scored 12 points in the first quarter, including back-to-back threes, as Charlotte went on an 18-4 run to lead 23-15, and the Hornets were up 27-23 after one. Moussa Diabate’s running dunk off an Allen pass with 1.2 seconds left in the half made it 54-48 at the break.
Charlotte stretched the lead to 62-52 early in the third before Porter answered with three threes in 1:46, the last one a four-point play, and a Randle layup in between. Porter’s layup with 6:03 left gave Brooklyn a 66-65 lead. Allen responded with threes from 29, 24 and 31 feet in 2:27, Reid added a driving layup and a three, and the Hornets led 86-81 after three quarters.
Royce O’Neale and Sion James opened the fourth with threes for a 92-84 lead, and Porter’s floater cut it to 94-90 with 7:20 left. Schroder then scored eight straight Charlotte points on drives and free throws to make it 102-92 with 5:38 to play. Randle’s three-point play with 1:16 left got Brooklyn within 106-100, Day’Ron Sharpe then blocked Schroder at the other end, but Egor Demin lost the ball to Diabate, and Allen buried a 25-footer off Diabate’s pass to make it 109-100 with 38.7 seconds left.
