Memphis Grizzlies big man Isaiah Stewart has a moderate left ankle sprain and will be reevaluated in two weeks, the team said in a medical update on Friday, as reported by Roundtable.

Checked October 10, 2026.

How it happened

Stewart was hurt in the first quarter of Memphis’ preseason opener on Monday in Atlanta, in his first game for the team. He played two minutes and had one rebound in a 132-123 win over the Hawks.

The trade and the contract

The Grizzlies acquired Stewart from the Detroit Pistons on June 24 for three future second-round picks. He earns $15 million this season, and his $15 million salary for 2027-28 is a team option that Memphis must decide on by June 29, 2027.

Last season Stewart averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 58 games, all off the bench, and finished seventh in Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Who covers the minutes

Quinten Post started at center against Atlanta. Zach Edey, who was limited to 11 games last season by ankle problems, made his preseason debut against Orlando and played 10 minutes, his first game action since December 7. Rookie Cameron Boozer, the No. 3 pick, has scored 11 and 16 points in Memphis’ first two games.

A two-week timeline points to a return around the end of October, close to the start of the regular season. Memphis went 25-57 last year.
