Kennard scores 20 as Suns hold off Spurs 102-98 in preseason

Luke Kennard scored 20 points and Jalen Green added 18 as the Phoenix Suns beat the San Antonio Spurs 102-98 in their October 10 preseason game. Phoenix led by 12 entering the fourth quarter before holding off San Antonio’s late push.

The official NBA box score records Kennard making eight of his 15 shots, including four of 10 from three-point range. He also had five rebounds and four assists in just over 25 minutes.

Phoenix builds an early cushion

The Suns opened with a 35-25 first quarter and led 58-51 at halftime. Phoenix outscored San Antonio 27-22 in the third to take an 85-73 advantage into the final period. The Spurs won the fourth quarter 25-17, but the Suns finished four points ahead.

Green shot 7-of-12 overall and made three of five threes, adding five assists. Dillon Brooks scored 15 points, including six makes on seven free-throw attempts. Phoenix made 12 of 39 three-point attempts and 14 of 16 at the foul line.

Harper leads San Antonio with 15

Dylan Harper scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and had four assists. Victor Wembanyama finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Stephon Castle also scored 13, with seven rebounds and five assists.

San Antonio shot 42.5 percent and made 11 of 34 threes. The Spurs collected 48 player rebounds to Phoenix’s 43, but committed 20 total turnovers compared with the Suns’ 16.

The NBA’s official game record lists the result as final. These are preseason performances rather than a settled regular-season rotation or workload.
