NBA Jersey Day is Monday: how to join, and the eight new Specter uniforms fans may wear

Monday, October 19 is NBA Jersey Day, the league’s seventh edition of the fan event, and it lands on the last day of the offseason: 24 hours before the 2026-27 regular season opens on Tuesday, October 20.

The idea is simple and it is the league’s way of turning the final 24 hours before opening night into a fan event. Anyone can join by posting a photo in a favorite jersey on social media during Monday’s window and tagging the NBA’s account along with their team’s. The reward is not a prize: the best posts get picked up and shared on league and team channels.

Any jersey counts

The league has set no limits on what fans wear. A current star’s shirt, a rookie’s first jersey, a throwback from a team that has since moved or a legend’s number from decades ago all qualify, and the league itself is pushing that range by leaning on old moments. Its promotion for this year’s edition went back to a VJ Edgecombe moment with a young fan from his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

There is no official hashtag in the league’s instructions. The only requirement is the tag, so the league and the clubs can find the posts.

New shirts in eight cities

This year’s edition has a fresh hook for fans of the league’s oldest clubs. Nike and the NBA introduced the Standard Issue Collection for all 30 teams, and within it a Specter Edition uniform for eight franchises: the Celtics, Lakers, Warriors, Knicks, 76ers, Kings, Pistons and Hawks.

Nike first showed the designs at a fashion show in Brooklyn on Wednesday, September 9. They are an extra set, worn only in selected games, on top of each club’s usual Association, Icon, Statement and City uniforms. The early response was rough: leaked images drew heavy criticism online, with the Lakers’ version taking the most heat, and a ranking of the eight was no kinder.

Jersey Day is the first real test of whether fans will wear them anyway. The league sells jerseys online and at its stores in Manhattan, Houston and Los Angeles.

The posting window closes at the end of Monday, and the games start a day later. The Knicks raise their championship banner before hosting the 76ers on opening night, and the Spurs and Thunder reopen their 2026 Western Conference finals rivalry on the same Tuesday slate.
