The Phoenix Suns are expected to play Wednesday night’s preseason game at San Antonio without most of their projected rotation. Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Miles Bridges, Dillon Brooks, Collin Gillespie and Oso Ighodaro did not take part in the full morning shootaround and are not expected to play against the Spurs, The Arizona Republic’s Duane Rankin reported.

The Suns had not given a reason for each absence as of Wednesday morning. With only one exhibition left after this one, a home game against the Utah Jazz on Friday, the move looks more like workload management ahead of the regular season than a wave of new injuries. Tipoff at Frost Bank Center is 8 p.m. ET (3 a.m. Thursday in Cairo).

Bridges and Booker still waiting on a return

Bridges is the one name on the list with a known injury. He tweaked his right ankle against Chicago last week and sat out Saturday’s game against San Antonio as a precaution. Coach Jordan Ott said Monday the forward was progressing well but would not commit him to Wednesday’s game. Bridges was listed day-to-day with the ankle, and Booker day-to-day for rest, on the injury report tracked by Hoops Nightly. Both had been pointed toward the Spurs rematch as a possible return.

Booker also sat Saturday, when Phoenix beat the Spurs 102-98 behind 20 points from Luke Kennard. Gillespie was added to the day-to-day list on Wednesday. Center Mark Williams remains out with a left shoulder injury that has kept him off the floor since September.

Who is getting the minutes

That leaves a long look at the second unit. Ryan Dunn, Kennard, Haywood Highsmith and Koby Brea were getting up shots after shootaround, Rankin reported.

Kennard has been one of Phoenix’s most productive guards this preseason, and Dunn has been in the mix for wing minutes while Bridges recovers. The real test for Ott comes Friday against Utah, the Suns’ last chance to get Booker, Green, Bridges and Brooks on the floor together before games start counting.
