Anthony Edwards scored 26 points and Jaden McDaniels added 22 as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the New York Knicks 122-104 on Monday at Madison Square Garden.

The win moved Minnesota to 3-1 in the preseason. Sarah Todd and Michael Rand of the Minnesota Star Tribune reported that both teams’ starters played their highest minute totals of the exhibition schedule so far.

Minnesota’s shooting creates the gap

The Sportradar box score carried by The Madison Courier records the Timberwolves making 18 of 34 attempts from 3-point range, compared with New York’s eight makes in 32 attempts.

Edwards made five of eight threes and shot 8-of-16 overall in just under 25 minutes. McDaniels went 8-of-12 from the field, including four of five from deep, and collected five rebounds.

Minnesota led 30-25 after one quarter and 62-50 at halftime. New York trimmed the margin to 90-80 entering the fourth, but the Timberwolves won the final quarter 32-24.

Ball distributes, Brunson leads New York

LaMelo Ball finished with 10 points and seven assists for Minnesota, while Ayo Dosunmu scored 11 off the bench. The Timberwolves recorded 26 assists and shot 53.8 percent from the field.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists. OG Anunoby added 15 points, Karl-Anthony Towns had 11 points and four assists, and Tony Bradley scored 10 on 5-of-5 shooting off the bench.

The shooting difference gave Minnesota control despite both teams committing 19 individual turnovers. For the Timberwolves, this was a productive night with the starters back on the court, rather than a verdict on either team’s regular-season prospects.
