How it turned

Neither offense found much early. Randle’s three gave Brooklyn a 12-10 lead in the first quarter, and Indiana did not lead again. The Pacers made 4 of 20 threes in the first half, and the Nets, who shot 38% themselves, went into halftime up 43-40.

Brooklyn opened the third quarter with nine straight points. Porter made a three and the free throw for a four-point play, and rookie Nolan Traore added a three and a floater to make it 52-40. The Nets led by 12 three times in the quarter, the last at 68-56 on Noah Clowney’s dunk after a Randle step-back three, and took a 71-62 lead into the fourth.

Indiana’s best push came right after. Andrew Nembhard scored twice inside, then back-to-back threes from Larry Nance Jr. and Nembhard pulled the Pacers within 75-72 with 9:29 left. Randle answered with a three, Sharpe dunked twice, and Brooklyn rebuilt a 10-point lead. When Indiana kept trading threes in the last five minutes, Traore hit two from 25 and 27 feet, both off Randle passes, to keep the Pacers at a distance.
