Devin Carter’s strong first impression with the Boston Celtics will have to wait to become something more. The former lottery pick is still away from the team as he deals with a bout of mononucleosis, according to Jay King, and he “could miss a few more weeks,” according to Gary Washburn.

Carter, 24, had his Exhibit 10 contract converted to a two-way deal on Saturday. He contributed 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 25 minutes during Boston’s preseason win in Cleveland on October 8, finishing plus-22, but he has been sidelined ever since.

The former Sacramento Kings guard joined Boston on a camp deal after being waived by the Atlanta Hawks in September. The Celtics open their regular season Tuesday on the road against the Detroit Pistons.
