Dalton Knecht is joining the New York Knicks on a two-way contract, his agents at Excel Sports told Shams Charania on Friday. New York will waive Kevin McCullar Jr. to create the two-way opening, Michael Scotto reports.

The Knicks’ interest surfaced on Thursday, when they had no open two-way slot, as we covered then. They were one of several teams in for Knecht after the Lakers waived him over the weekend to set their 15-man roster; the Kings, Timberwolves and Raptors also eyed him for a two-way deal.

Knecht, 25, was the 17th pick in the 2024 draft out of Tennessee. He averaged 4.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10.2 minutes over 51 games last season and made 34.2% of his threes. The Lakers looked for a trade in recent weeks but found negative value on his $4.2 million cap hit, and chose to waive him rather than attach one of their three remaining second-round picks; the waiver voids his $6.45 million team option for 2027-28.
