One week from tonight, ESPN starts its 2026-27 regular-season NBA coverage. The network opens with a pair of doubleheaders as part of American Express NBA Tip-Off, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 21, with Minnesota at Miami and Golden State at the Los Angeles Lakers.

NBA Communications marked the countdown on Wednesday with a graphic of the opening ESPN doubleheader. The full four-game slate was first announced in August through the ESPN Press Room and is still the official schedule.

American Express NBA Tip-Off schedule on ESPN

  • Wed., Oct. 21, 7:30 p.m. ET: Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat (ESPN)
  • Wed., Oct. 21, 10 p.m. ET: Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers (ESPN)
  • Thu., Oct. 22, 7 p.m. ET: Cleveland Cavaliers at Philadelphia 76ers (ESPN)

Wednesday: Giannis in Miami, Curry vs. Luka

The opener is built around two debuts. Giannis Antetokounmpo, a two-time Kia NBA MVP, plays his first regular-season game for the Heat. LaMelo Ball, newly acquired by Minnesota, makes his Timberwolves debut alongside Anthony Edwards.

The late game sends Stephen Curry and the Warriors to Los Angeles to face Luka Dončić and the Lakers. As NBA.com noted in its Opening Week preview, the first night pairs champions and MVPs in Curry and Antetokounmpo with two stars, Edwards and Dončić, who are still chasing their first title and first MVP.

Thursday: LeBron’s Philly home debut, Jokić at OKC

On Thursday, Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers visit Philadelphia for the 76ers’ home opener. It is also LeBron James’ first regular-season home game with the franchise. The reworked 76ers added James and Jaylen Brown this offseason to go with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, and Cleveland brings James Harden along with Mitchell.

The nightcap is a matchup between Western Conference contenders. Nikola Jokić, a three-time MVP, and the Denver Nuggets visit Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning two-time MVP, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. NBA.com counted eight players in a games who have combined for nine Finals MVPs and 15 regular-season MVPs.

ESPN’s 25th straight NBA season

According to the ESPN Press Room, 2026-27 is ESPN’s 25th consecutive season of NBA game coverage, ending with the NBA Finals exclusively on ABC. Tip-Off week is the first big national TV window of the season. The next is Christmas Day, when ESPN and ABC carry all five games. That slate is in our NBA Christmas games guide.
