De'Aaron Fox and Keldon Johnson are questionable for the Spurs, Cedric Coward is doubtful for Memphis, Jake LaRavia is questionable while Collin Sexton is cleared, and Denver's Cam Johnson sprained his right ankle in Oklahoma City.

The first official injury report for Friday’s 12-game slate added two new names in San Antonio. De’Aaron Fox is questionable with a right wrist sprain for the Spurs’ game against Houston in Austin, and Keldon Johnson is questionable with a mouth laceration. Memphis listed Cedric Coward as doubtful with a left wrist sprain, Houston added Reed Sheppard with a knee bone bruise, and the Lakers still have Jake LaRavia as questionable with his right ankle sprain.
Thursday night also brought the season’s first significant injury for Denver. Cam Johnson sprained his right ankle in the first half of the Nuggets’ 96-84 loss in Oklahoma City and did not come back. Statuses below are from the league’s 12:15 a.m. ET report on Friday. Times are Eastern, with Cairo seven hours ahead, so the 7 p.m. ET games tip at 2 a.m. Saturday in Cairo.
Fox was not on San Antonio’s report for the opener, a 116-104 loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday, so the wrist sprain is new. The Spurs have not said when it happened. Johnson needed stitches to close a deep cut inside his cheek that he suffered in the opener, Jared Weiss and Tom Orsborn reported. Tobias Harris (left calf strain) and Jayden Quaintance (right knee surgery) remain out. Dylan Harper (right ankle), the Spurs’ other name to watch this week, is not on the report.
Houston kept Steven Adams as questionable with right calf tightness after he sat out Wednesday’s win over Dallas, and added Sheppard, who is questionable with a left knee contusion and bone bruise, Varun Shankar reported. Game Center.
Coward played 28 minutes in Memphis’ 123-103 opening win over Utah, and his left wrist sprain is the only new name on the Grizzlies’ list. Isaiah Stewart, who missed the opener with a left ankle sprain, has been upgraded to questionable.
Golden State again lists Brandin Podziemski (bilateral low back soreness) and Charles Bassey (right patellar tendinopathy) as questionable after both sat out Wednesday’s loss to the Lakers. Kristaps Porzingis is listed as not with the team, and Jimmy Butler III (right ACL) and Moses Moody (left patellar tendon) are out. Game Center.
LaRavia, who rolled his right ankle late in Wednesday’s win over Golden State, is questionable with a right ankle sprain. The better news for JJ Redick is Collin Sexton, who is off the report after sitting out the opener as a precaution with a right calf strain and is set to make his Lakers debut, Daniel Starkand reported. Walker Kessler is listed as available with a splint on his left finger after his 12-for-12 debut. Cameron Carr (right oblique strain) and Adou Thiero (left knee swelling) are out.
The Clippers have the same five players out as on Wednesday: Bradley Beal, Brandon Ingram, Max Strus, Yanic Konan Niederhauser and Jordan Miller. Game Center.
Johnson started for Denver and played 11 minutes before he went down late in the first half. The Nuggets announced at halftime that he was questionable to return with a right ankle sprain, and Alpha Diallo started the third quarter in his place. Johnson scored 5 points. Denver had already ruled out Spencer Jones (bilateral hamstring injury management) about an hour before tip and was without Julian Strawther (left knee sprain), which left David Adelman short on forwards for most of the night. The Nuggets have not given a timeline for Johnson, and their next game is Saturday at home against New Orleans.
In Philadelphia, Jarrett Allen was upgraded to available about half an hour before tip and played 28 minutes, finishing with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in the 114-106 loss. Dean Wade was downgraded to out again with his left ankle sprain. After the game, Joel Embiid said he will not play both games of the 76ers’ weekend back-to-back, at home against Milwaukee on Saturday and again on Sunday. “I’m playing one of them,” he said, adding that the team will tell him which one, Adam Aaronson and Jeff Grieb reported.
Bulls at Bucks (4 p.m. ET, 11 p.m. Friday in Cairo): Chicago lists Josh Giddey (left wrist sprain), Zach Collins (right quadriceps strain) and Tobe Awaka (left MCL sprain) as probable, while Jordan Hawkins and Dailyn Swain are questionable after missing the opener with a stomach illness. Nic Claxton (left hamstring strain) is out. Milwaukee has nobody on the report. Game Center.
Hawks at Hornets: Charlotte is again without Coby White (left calf strain), Kon Knueppel (left hamstring strain), Grant Williams (right hamstring strain) and Kylan Boswell (right knee surgery). Atlanta has Mouhamed Gueye (left foot fracture) and Henri Veesaar (right ACL tear) out. Game Center.
Mavericks at Pacers: Indiana upgraded Aaron Nesmith (left hamstring strain) to questionable for Tyrese Haliburton’s home return, but added Ben Sheppard as questionable with left knee soreness. T.J. McConnell (right hamstring strain) and Johnny Furphy (right ACL) are out. For Dallas, Jett Howard (right calf) is doubtful, and Santi Aldama, Tarik Biberovic, Dereck Lively II and Caleb Martin are out.
Timberwolves at Magic: Orlando ruled out Anthony Black (right ankle sprain) and Jonathan Isaac (left knee injury management) again, even though Black was a full participant in Thursday’s practice. The team is being cautious with his return, and Isaac played two-on-two after the session, Jason Beede reported. Noah Penda (right hamstring) and Izaiyah Nelson (left ankle) are out, and Minnesota has only Donte DiVincenzo (right Achilles) out. Game Center.
Knicks at Celtics: Mitchell Robinson is not on the report after hurting his ankle in Tuesday’s opener, and Boston lists only Devin Carter (illness). New York’s only names are three two-way players. Game Center.
Raptors at Wizards: AJ Dybantsa (left ankle sprain), Tristan Vukcevic (left hip impingement) and Jamir Watkins (left ACL) are out for Washington, and Felix Okpara is questionable with an illness. Toronto has Nate Bittle (right foot avulsion fracture) out. Game Center.
Pistons at Heat: Taurean Prince is probable after missing Detroit’s opener for personal reasons. Miami lists Myron Gardner, Vladislav Goldin and Dru Smith as available. Game Center.
Pelicans at Jazz: Utah’s Tony Bradley (left quadriceps strain) is questionable and Jusuf Nurkic (right second plantar plate tear) is out. New Orleans has only two-way players listed. Game Center.
Trail Blazers at Kings: Sacramento upgraded Malik Monk (left ankle soreness) to probable after he missed the opener. Ben Simmons (right Achilles surgery), Dylan Cardwell (left calf strain) and Maxime Raynaud (right patella subluxation) are out. Portland is without Branden Carlson (concussion protocol), Chris Youngblood (left ankle soreness) and Shaedon Sharpe (right meniscus surgery). Game Center.
Teams update the report through Friday, usually after morning shootarounds and again in the final hour before tip. The names to watch are Fox and Johnson in Austin, LaRavia, Coward and Stewart, and Podziemski in San Francisco. The 16 teams in Saturday’s eight games file their first reports on Friday afternoon ET, around midnight in Cairo, including Denver, which will give the first official word on Johnson, and Philadelphia, which could show which game Embiid sits. Our Friday preview has tip times and TV for every game, and the injuries page tracks every team’s latest list.
