ESPN nightcap: Nuggets at Lakers

Denver visits Los Angeles in the final game on a five-game 2026 preseason package. It is also each club’s last exhibition before the regular season: the Lakers open at home against Golden State on Wednesday, Oct. 21 (ESPN), and the Nuggets tip their season the same week. Preseason minutes have already been a measuring stick in Los Angeles after a turnover-heavy loss to the Warriors earlier in the week, while Denver has used the exhibitions to mix starters and depth ahead of Opening Week.

Storylines across the 12-game board

Celtics at 76ers on NBA TV. Boston visits Philadelphia in the early national window. Camp talk around Paul George’s fit in green and how Nick Nurse is deploying Tyrese Maxey off the ball give both sides something concrete to test in a final dress rehearsal.

Middleton’s ramp-up in New Orleans. Washington coach Brian Keefe has said Khris Middleton is trending toward a preseason debut Friday at the Pelicans after a planned conditioning plan kept the veteran out of the Wizards’ first three exhibitions. Friday is Washington’s last chance to get him live minutes before the regular season.

Raptors finish a back-to-back at Detroit. Toronto plays the second half of a Thursday-Friday set after the Garden rematch with the Knicks. Any Kawhi Leonard or Jamison Battle minutes will be watched closely with Opening Night five days away.

East and West tune-ups. Heat-Magic, Bucks-Pacers, Wolves-Bulls, Hornets-Grizzlies, Hawks-Mavericks, Kings-Spurs, Blazers-Warriors and Jazz-Suns round out a night where most clubs are managing rest more than chasing exhibition records.

What comes next

After Friday there are no more preseason games. Opening Night is Tuesday, Oct. 20: Boston at Detroit (3:00 p.m. ET, NBC), Philadelphia at New York (7:00 p.m., NBC) and Oklahoma City at San Antonio (9:30 p.m., NBC). Wednesday, Oct. 21 brings the first full regular-season slate, including a doubleheader. Tip times and TV assignments for every date stay on the WhyNBA schedule pages.
