Four months after New York's first title in 53 years, New Era says the Knicks hot market is still its best NBA run ever, with a Spike Lee collab, ring-ceremony caps and a Manhattan pop-up timed to opening night.

Oct. 14, 2026 — The Knicks’ first championship in 53 years still has legs at retail. New Era, the NBA’s longtime on-court cap partner, is rolling out another wave of championship product ahead of New York’s Oct. 20 opener against the 76ers at Madison Square Garden, Terry Lefton wrote for Sports Business Journal on Wednesday.
The push includes an NBA Ring Ceremony Collection with a blinged-out championship cap in 9FIFTY snapback and 9TWENTY adjustable styles, plus a collaboration with Spike Lee that adds two more commemorative championship caps. New Era is also staging a “Knicks experience” pop-up with Lee at its flagship Manhattan store from Oct. 18–24, supported by a digital video of Karl-Anthony Towns playing salesclerk at that store.
Tim Shanahan, New Era’s senior director of licensed products, told SBJ the Knicks title run produced the company’s best NBA hot market ever — even if it did not top every championship sales spike across sports. He also said Knicks playoff success lifted licensed merchandise across the league, not just New York SKUs.
“Actually, we’ve seen a decent lift across sports,” Shanahan said. “We’re certainly above a year ago at this time, especially for NBA. So far, the Knicks have a longer tail than I can remember.”
When the Knicks closed out the 2025-26 title in June, New Era dropped a Champions Collection built around the same caps players wore in the locker room and on the parade route: a two-tone 9FIFTY locker-room snapback with a “NBA Champions 2025–2026” front patch, team-color side-patch styles across 9FIFTY, 39THIRTY, 9FORTY, 9TWENTY and 9SEVENTY silhouettes, and an off-white parade locker-room 9FIFTY featuring the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Much of that first wave later sold out on New Era’s site.
The business takeaway is less about one more hat drop and more about duration. Four months after the Finals, New Era is still treating Knicks championship headwear as a live category — and tying fresh SKUs to ring night and the first home tip against Philadelphia — instead of winding down a short hot-market window.
