Joel Embiid had 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, Jaylen Brown scored 27 and Tyrese Maxey 26 as the 76ers beat the Bucks 127-116 to move to 3-0. Milwaukee, on a back-to-back, fell to 0-3.

Joel Embiid had 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, Jaylen Brown scored 27 on his 30th birthday and Tyrese Maxey 26, and the Philadelphia 76ers held off a late Milwaukee push to beat the Bucks 127-116 at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday, October 24. Philadelphia is 3-0 without LeBron James, who sat out again with a back injury. Milwaukee, on the second night of a back-to-back after Friday’s home loss to Chicago, fell to 0-3.
Embiid’s triple-double came with 12-of-14 free-throw shooting, and three of his assists came in the opening three minutes of the fourth quarter as the lead grew to 16. When the Bucks cut it to three in the final two minutes, Brown and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope answered with back-to-back threes.

Philadelphia opened on a 12-3 run behind a Dean Wade three and a VJ Edgecombe three off an Embiid pass, and led 34-25 after one quarter. Milwaukee’s bench took over the start of the second. Brayden Burries, Kyle Kuzma and Ryan Rollins keyed a 15-3 run, and Rollins’ 26-footer gave the Bucks their first lead at 40-37. They stretched it to 56-49 on a Kasparas Jakucionis basket with 2:41 left in the half, their biggest lead of the game.
The 76ers closed the half on a 13-4 run. Caldwell-Pope hit a three, Maxey tied it at 56, Jabari Walker finished a three-point play, and Brown’s three with 11.8 seconds left made it 64-58. Philadelphia led 64-60 at the break. The third quarter went back and forth until Caldwell-Pope’s three with 2:57 left started another surge. Maxey scored seven of Philadelphia’s last nine points of the quarter, including a 25-foot three and a step-back jumper with 1.7 seconds left, for a 97-87 lead. He had 12 points in the period.
Embiid then set up threes by Anfernee Simons and Edgecombe and a Maxey layup, part of a 14-2 run that made it 105-89 with 9:28 left. The Bucks did not go away. Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored nine points in the last five minutes, Kel’el Ware hit a 26-foot three and finished a three-point play, and Milwaukee closed a 16-4 run at 117-114 with 2:02 left. Brown’s 27-foot three off an Embiid pass and Caldwell-Pope’s running 25-footer 27 seconds later made it 123-114, and Embiid’s dunk sealed it.
Philadelphia made 19 of 44 threes to Milwaukee’s 11 of 34 and went 28-of-34 at the line. Its 14 steals turned 22 Bucks turnovers into 26 points. Brown shot 9-of-19 with 5 assists, 3 steals and a game-high plus-24, which Caldwell-Pope matched with 12 points on 4-of-6 from three in 28 minutes off the bench. Maxey shot 9-of-22, Edgecombe had 17 points and 13 rebounds with five threes, and Wade added 3 steals.
The Bucks won the glass 62-40, had 17 offensive rebounds and outscored Philadelphia 58-26 in the paint and 31-13 on the fast break, but they shot 42-of-90 and gave the ball away too often to make it count. Jaquez had 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, and Ware had 19 points and 13 rebounds off the bench. Rollins scored 15, Kuzma 14 with 12 rebounds, and Tyler Herro, a night after scoring 34 against the Bulls, had 13 on 6-of-14 shooting. Myles Turner went scoreless in 20 minutes.
The 76ers host the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. ET (2:30 a.m. Monday Cairo time). The Bucks get a day off and host the Indiana Pacers on Monday, October 26, at 8 p.m. ET (3 a.m. Tuesday Cairo time).
