Sixers exercise 2027-28 option on VJ Edgecombe

The Sixers have exercised their third-year option on VJ Edgecombe, the team announced in a press release. The move locks in Edgecombe’s $12,219,840 salary for 2027-28; he was already set to earn $11,663,880 this season.

The decision was a formality. Edgecombe, the third overall pick in the 2025 draft, averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 35.0 minutes per game as a full-time starter during an excellent rookie season, appearing in 75 games with a .438/.352/.818 shooting line.

The 6-foot-4 guard from the Bahamas finished third in Rookie of the Year voting behind Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel and was a unanimous All-Rookie first-team selection. Philadelphia has until next fall to decide on Edgecombe’s fourth-year option for 2028-29, worth $15,445,878.
