Timberwolves bring back Enrique Freeman on a two-way contract, 10 days after waiving him

The Timberwolves have re-signed forward Enrique Freeman to a two-way contract 10 days after cutting him. He fills Minnesota's last two-way spot and will start in Iowa, leaving Toronto as the only team with an open slot.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have brought back forward Enrique Freeman on a two-way contract, 10 days after waiving him to get down to the regular-season roster limit. Jon Krawczynski reported the move Tuesday, and the signing now appears on the league’s transaction log.

Minnesota cut Freeman on Oct. 17 along with four players on Exhibit 10 deals, leaving one two-way spot open so the front office could see who else became available. After looking at several options, the Wolves went back to the player they already knew. Krawczynski said Freeman is well-liked in the organization and is familiar with Chris Finch’s system. He is expected to start the season with the Iowa Wolves, Minnesota’s G League affiliate.

Who Freeman is

Freeman, 26, is a 6-foot-7 forward from Akron who was the 50th pick in the 2024 draft. He spent his rookie season with the Indiana Pacers before signing a two-way deal with Minnesota in August 2025.

He was on the Wolves’ books all of last season but appeared in only four NBA games, totaling 13 points and 10 rebounds in 37 minutes. Most of his work came in Iowa, where he averaged 16.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 39 G League games while shooting 54.2% from the field, 32.6% from three and 72.8% from the line. Minnesota re-signed him to another two-way deal in July, then released him at the end of the preseason.

Two-way spots are almost all taken

Freeman joins center Rocco Zikarsky and guard Zyon Pullin as Minnesota’s three two-way players. A two-way player can be active for up to 50 NBA regular-season games and spends the rest of his time in the G League. He does not count against the 15-man standard roster.

With Minnesota’s spot filled, the two-way tracker kept by Hoops Rumors shows the Toronto Raptors as the only team left with an open slot. The Raptors have not said when they plan to fill it.

The move comes as the Wolves deal with a much bigger roster problem. Anthony Edwards will have an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee on Thursday and is expected to miss up to two months. A two-way forward is not a direct answer to that, but having a third two-way player gives Finch another body for practice and for nights when the injury list gets long.
