Bucks waive Kevin Porter Jr. to finalize 15-man roster

The Bucks have placed guard Kevin Porter Jr. on waivers, according to Shams Charania. Milwaukee carried 16 players on guaranteed contracts and had to trade or waive one to set its 15-man roster for the start of the regular season.

Caris LeVert and Jericho Sims had been viewed as the possible odd men out, but the Bucks instead cut Porter, who averaged 17.4 points, 7.4 assists and 5.2 rebounds in 38 games last season. Porter has produced solid scoring and passing numbers for each of his four NBA teams, but he has been inconsistent as a shooter, a career 34.8% from three, and as a defender.

Even after the move, Milwaukee’s backcourt includes Tyler Herro, Ryan Rollins, Brayden Burries, Kasparas Jakucionis and Gary Trent Jr., with A.J. Green and Caris LeVert also among the team’s options.
