The Cleveland Cavaliers have exercised Jaylon Tyson’s fourth-year team option, keeping the guard under contract through the 2027-28 season. President of basketball operations Koby Altman announced the move Tuesday.

The decision follows a breakout second season in which Tyson became a regular starter. He averaged 13.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 66 games, 42 of them starts, shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from three, the fourth-best mark in the league. He set career highs in every major statistical category.

His biggest night came January 16 in Philadelphia, when he scored 39 points on 13-of-17 shooting with seven three-pointers. He reached double figures 46 times, including 15 straight games from January 10 through February 9, and scored at least 20 points eight times.

Tyson also posted seven double-doubles, third-most on the team, and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, with 23 points, in a December win at Houston. Eight of those rebounds were offensive.

The No. 20 pick in the 2024 draft out of California, Tyson enters his third season with a more established place in Cleveland’s rotation.
