The Detroit Pistons have exercised their rookie scale team option on Ron Holland II for the 2027-28 season, according to Keith Smith. The option is worth $11.5 million and is now fully guaranteed.
Holland, the No. 5 pick in the 2024 draft, is in his third NBA season and will earn about $9.1 million in 2026-27. Picking up the option makes him extension-eligible in the 2027 offseason. If he does not sign a new deal before then, he could become a restricted free agent in 2028.
The decision was not necessarily a formality. Holland has played 159 of Detroit’s 164 regular-season games over his first two seasons, but he has averaged 7.3 points and 1.1 assists in 17.7 minutes, shooting .450 from the field, .246 from three and .782 from the line. He has still held a regular rotation role on teams that won 44 games in his rookie year and 60 last season.
Holland was the only Piston with a rookie scale option for 2027-28. Those decisions are due by November 2.
