Ron Harper Jr. returned to Boston Celtics practice on Monday after a shoulder injury kept him out of the team’s first two preseason games, according to NESN’s Scott Rafferty. Coach Joe Mazzulla described Harper as day-to-day.

Devin Carter is still dealing with the illness that sidelined him against Philadelphia on Saturday. Neither player’s availability for Wednesday’s preseason game against Charlotte has been confirmed.

Practice return is not game clearance

Harper’s return gives Boston a chance to work him back into its preseason preparations, but the day-to-day designation leaves his next game appearance open. NESN reported that he hurt his shoulder during training camp.

Carter’s update is different: the illness is continuing, and there is no confirmed return date in Monday’s report. Boston has two exhibitions remaining, hosting Charlotte on Wednesday before visiting Philadelphia on Friday.

The distinction matters as the Celtics finish evaluating their available players. Monday’s practice update is a step forward for Harper, not an announcement that either player will suit up against the Hornets.
