Kristaps Porzingis is due back at the Golden State Warriors‘ practice facility on Tuesday, October 13, for a session with the club’s medical staff, coach Steve Kerr said Monday, the first sign of movement in an absence that has covered all of training camp.

The visit does not come with a return date. Kerr made clear that nobody yet knows when the 31-year-old center will be able to play, and the Warriors have still not said what is keeping him away. With the regular season nine days off, Golden State is preparing for a frontcourt without him for now.

Where things stood before Monday

Hours before Kerr spoke, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported that Porzingis was still away from the team as the preseason moved into its third week. According to Slater, the front office and Rick Celebrini, who runs the club’s sports medicine and performance group, have kept in steady touch with the center, but the timeline for him to come back to the building, and then to the floor, remained open-ended.

Porzingis has not taken part in a single practice since camp opened and has sat out all four of the Warriors’ exhibition games, CBS Sports noted. The team first described his status as indefinite in September, before the group flew to Hawaii for camp. Kerr said last week that he had only been in contact with Porzingis by text and that the center seemed to be “doing OK.”

What remains unknown is the nature of the problem itself. Late in his 2025 season with the Boston Celtics, Porzingis was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, a condition that left him dealing with severe fatigue. Neither he nor the Warriors has said whether the current issue is connected, and he has not spoken publicly since April.

A thin frontcourt picture

Golden State landed Porzingis from Atlanta at last season’s trade deadline in a package that sent Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Hawks. He appeared in only 15 games for the Warriors, putting up 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks a night, and then re-signed on a two-year, $40 million contract this summer. He is owed $20 million this season, while only $3 million of the second year is guaranteed, according to CBS Sports.

His absence lands on a roster already missing two rotation pieces. Jimmy Butler III is working back from a torn ACL with a midseason target, and Moses Moody is out until somewhere between December and March after tearing a patellar tendon. Kerr has said the team will back Porzingis while continuing to prepare without him. Follow the latest designations on our injury report.

What comes next

The Warriors visit the Los Angeles Lakers in a preseason game on Tuesday, October 13, at 10:00 p.m. ET, the same day Porzingis is scheduled to meet with the medical staff (Game Center). Golden State opens the regular season against the Lakers on Wednesday, October 21, and has not officially ruled Porzingis out of that game.
