Los Angeles cut the 2024 second-round pick before his $2.3 million salary became guaranteed, but an open two-way spot could bring him back.

The LA Clippers have waived guard Cam Christie, the team announced Wednesday, a day before his salary for the 2026–27 season would have become fully guaranteed. a and a first reported the move.
Christie, the 46th overall pick in the 2024 draft, was set to earn $2,296,271 this season on a non-guaranteed deal. He and the team had agreed twice this offseason to push back the guarantee date, which finally landed on Thursday, Oct. 15. Cutting him now means the Clippers owe none of that money, according to reports.
The decision was largely about math. The Clippers had 15 other players on guaranteed contracts, the regular-season maximum, so keeping Christie would have meant cutting or trading someone with guaranteed money. With this move, the roster is down to 15, Clippers reporter Tomer Azarly noted.
Christie, 21, appeared in 55 games last season and averaged 2.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.7 minutes. Across 68 career games he has shot 36.8% from the field and 22.6% from three, numbers that made it hard for him to hold a rotation spot.
This may not be the end of his time with the Clippers. If no team claims him off waivers, Christie becomes an unrestricted free agent. Los Angeles still has a two-way slot open, and Christie is in his final year of two-way eligibility. That is the same path the team used for years with Jordan Miller before signing him to a standard deal this summer.
Christie is the younger brother of Max Christie. Any team that claims him would take on his non-guaranteed contract before the Oct. 15 guarantee date passes.
