The Toronto Raptors have waived center Trey Jemison III, the team announced Wednesday, opening a second two-way spot a week before the regular season begins.

Jemison signed a two-way contract with Toronto in August after spending last season with the champion New York Knicks, where he averaged 1.0 point and 1.4 rebounds in 13 regular-season games, according to TSN.

A short preseason

The 6-foot-10 big man played just once for the Raptors this preseason, logging eight minutes with six rebounds and an assist and no points in Saturday’s 114-106 win over the Clippers. Raptors reporter Blake Murphy reported that Jemison hurt his hand a few games ago. Toronto listed him with an undisclosed issue and held him out of Tuesday’s game against the Knicks.

Jemison has also played NBA minutes for the Wizards, Grizzlies, Lakers and Pelicans. Murphy noted that a stint with the Raptors 905, Toronto’s G League affiliate, is a possibility from here, though nothing is confirmed.

Two two-way spots open

The move comes two days after Toronto waived two-way guard Chucky Hepburn to make room for 7-foot-5 center Jamarion Sharp, the reigning G League Defensive Player of the Year. That leaves the Raptors with two open two-way spots and a roster of 20 players plus one two-way, per TSN.

Sharp is an obvious candidate for one of those spots, though the team hasn’t announced any plans. Toronto opens its regular season next Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls.
