The LA Clippers waived Yuki Kawamura on Monday, October 12, ending the Japanese guard’s bid to make their opening-night roster after two preseason appearances.

Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors reported the team’s announcement Monday night. CBS Sports’ RotoWire update and BasketNews also confirmed the move. Hoops Rumors reported that the cut leaves the Clippers with 20 players on their preseason roster.

A productive last appearance was not enough

Kawamura had 10 points and four assists in 14 minutes during Saturday’s 114-106 preseason loss to Toronto in Vancouver. He shot 3-of-4 from the field, according to Hoops Rumors and BasketNews.

The performance followed a shorter appearance in LA’s exhibition opener against Golden State. It gave the Clippers a look at his creation off the bench, but did not produce an opening-night place.

G League route remains possible, not confirmed

Kawamura was on an Exhibit 10 contract. Adams reported that he could receive a $91,000 bonus if he chooses to play for the San Diego Clippers and stays with the G League affiliate for at least 60 days. That condition does not establish that he has signed with San Diego.

The 25-year-old spent last season with Chicago on a two-way contract. Hoops Rumors records 18 NBA appearances for the Bulls and 11 G League games for Windy City, where he averaged 18.7 points and 11 assists.

For now, the confirmed development is the Clippers’ waiver. A new NBA deal or G League destination remains to be announced.
