The Utah Jazz signed forward Chance Moore on Wednesday, October 14, the team announced. Utah did not disclose the terms, which is team policy, but the timing and the roster math point to a training-camp contract for the undrafted rookie.

Moore, 23, goes into the spot that opened when the Jazz waived forward-center Mohamed Wague a day earlier. The NBA.com roster now lists Utah at 21 players, the preseason maximum, with Moore marked as signed on October 14.

Who is Chance Moore?

Moore is listed at 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds. He went undrafted in June after a college career that took him to four schools. He was in the Arkansas class of 2021 and played five games for the Razorbacks as a freshman. He then spent two seasons at Missouri State, one at St. Bonaventure and his final year at West Virginia.

St. Bonaventure gave him his biggest role. In 2024-25 he averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 34.0 minutes per game. With West Virginia last season he came off the bench in all but one of his 29 games. He averaged 10.6 points and 5.8 rebounds in 22.3 minutes and shot 53.1 percent from the field. The Jazz noted that he scored in double figures 18 times and had three double-doubles.

Moore missed West Virginia’s first five games under an NCAA eligibility ruling linked to his year at Arkansas. Once he was cleared, he became one of the Big 12’s most efficient frontcourt reserves. Shooting is the gap in his game: he made 9 of 32 three-point attempts (28.1 percent) and 56.3 percent of his free throws.

Why the Jazz made the move

Utah has used the last spots on its camp roster to bring in young players it can develop in the G League. Reports expect Moore’s deal to be an Exhibit 10 contract, which is the usual structure for a late-camp signing like this one. Under that kind of deal, a player who is waived before the season and then spends at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate can earn a bonus of up to $91,000. For Utah, that affiliate is the Salt Lake City Stars.

Wague, the player Moore replaces, also played at West Virginia earlier in his college career. Reports said Wague was expected to go to the Stars, though Utah’s waiver announcement did not confirm a G League assignment.

What comes next

Moore is not expected to compete for one of Utah’s 15 standard roster spots, and any move to the Stars would have to wait until the Jazz waive him. Utah’s next preseason game is against Phoenix on October 16, and every team must cut down to 15 standard contracts and three two-way deals before the regular season opens on October 20.
