Moussa Cissé’s roughly $2.2 million salary for the 2026–27 season is now fully guaranteed, Marc Stein reported.

Mike Curtis had earlier reported that Dallas was expected to let the October 1 deadline pass. Stein’s subsequent report describes the guarantee as completed.

How the deal arrived here

Dallas announced Cissé’s multi-year signing on July 22, 2026, without releasing terms.

The team later confirmed it had matched New York’s two-year, $4.7 million offer sheet.

The latest report concerns protection of pay under that existing deal.

What the guarantee means for Cissé’s role

In 2025–26, Cissé averaged 4.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 13.9 minutes across 38 NBA games.

That gives Dallas a rebounding and shot-blocking record to assess in camp, but the limited playing time matters when judging the sample. Full salary protection does not set his minutes, make him a starter or establish a regular rotation role. His preseason usage remains a separate basketball question.

The July offer-sheet match also limits trade options. As Grant Afseth reported at the time, Dallas needs Cissé’s consent for a trade during the following year, and he cannot be traded to the Knicks during that period. Those restrictions came with the matched offer; the reported October salary guarantee is a separate provision.

Dallas still has roster decisions

Stein also reported that Dallas had 15 standard contracts as it prepared for its Macao preseason trip, with Dwight Powell still hoping to make the roster.

That is the reported situation entering preseason, rather than a declaration of the final regular-season roster.

Dallas and Houston are scheduled for preseason games on October 9 and 11 at The Venetian Arena in Macao.
