Mitchell Robinson’s 23.9 offensive rebound percentage led every 1,000-minute player in 2025-26

Mitchell Robinson grabbed 23.9 percent of available offensive rebounds for the Knicks in 2025-26, more than six points clear of any 1,000-minute player, with 10.6 offensive boards per 100 possessions. He now brings that rate to the Celtics.

BOSTON — Oct. 15, 2026 — Mitchell Robinson grabbed an estimated 23.9 percent of the available offensive rebounds while he was on the floor for the New York Knicks in 2025-26. No player who logged at least 1,000 minutes came within six points of him. Portland’s Donovan Clingan, who topped Basketball-Reference’s qualified leaderboard, finished at 17.7.

Robinson did not appear on that official board because he played 1,175 minutes over 60 games, below the minutes minimum. The rate still stands out on every scale. He averaged 7.7 offensive rebounds per 36 minutes and 10.6 per 100 possessions, both first among 1,000-minute players. He now brings that profile to Boston, where he signed a multi-year contract on July 6, weeks after the Knicks won the 2026 title.

The gap on the glass

Offensive rebound percentage, as Basketball-Reference defines it, estimates the share of a team’s missed shots a player recovers while on the court. Robinson’s rate was the highest of any player with 500-plus minutes too. Houston’s Steven Adams was next at 22.3 in 730 minutes.

  • Offensive rebound percentage, 2025-26 (1,000+ minutes): Robinson 23.9, Clingan 17.7, Andre Drummond 17.5, Moussa Diabaté 16.5, Day’Ron Sharpe 16.2
  • Qualified leaderboard: Clingan 17.7, Diabaté 16.5, Jalen Duren 15.3, Rudy Gobert 14.1, Neemias Queta 13.4
  • Offensive rebounds per 100 possessions (1,000+ minutes): Robinson 10.6, Clingan 7.9, Drummond 7.8, Sharpe 7.3, Diabaté 7.1
  • Total rebounds per 36 minutes (1,000+ minutes): Robinson 16.1, Drummond 15.6, Clingan 15.3, Robert Williams III 14.8, Kel’el Ware 14.7
  • Total rebound percentage (1,000+ minutes): Robinson 25.0, Drummond 23.6, Clingan 23.1, Williams 22.3, Karl-Anthony Towns 21.4

For scale, the top qualified season on Basketball-Reference’s all-time offensive rebound percentage list is Dennis Rodman’s 20.8 in 1994-95. Robinson’s own 18.4 in 2022-23 ranks 12th on that list. His 2025-26 number sits above both, but it came in a reserve-heavy season of 19.6 minutes a night and only 16 starts.

Fifth in volume, in half the minutes

The raw total backs up the rate. Robinson finished fifth in the league with 252 offensive rebounds. The four players ahead of him all played at least 1,899 minutes: Clingan had 347 in 2,094, Gobert 299 in 2,380, Diabaté 273 in 1,899 and Duren 265 in 1,976. Robinson also ranked second in offensive rebounds per game at 4.2, behind Clingan’s 4.5.

Nearly half of his boards came on the offensive end: 252 of 525. He averaged 5.7 points and 8.8 rebounds, shot .723 from the field on 206 attempts, all inside the arc, and made 42 of 103 free throws (.408). The put-backs and dump-offs drove a 145 offensive rating, third among 1,000-minute players. His .236 win shares per 48 minutes ranked fifth in that group, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokić, Duren and Victor Wembanyama. He finished eighth in Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Up every single season

The 2025-26 mark was the peak of a steady climb. Robinson’s offensive rebound percentage has risen in each of his eight NBA seasons, all with New York:

  • 2018-19: 13.3 · 2019-20: 13.7 · 2020-21: 14.5 · 2021-22: 16.8
  • 2022-23: 18.4 · 2023-24: 20.7 · 2024-25: 20.8 (290 minutes) · 2025-26: 23.9

Last season also brought career highs in defensive rebound percentage (26.1), total rebound percentage (25.0) and rebounds per 36 minutes (16.1). Availability was the limiting factor: Robinson played 31 games in 2023-24 and 17 in 2024-25 before returning for 60 last season.

What it means in Boston

The Celtics now pair Robinson with Queta, who ranked fifth on the qualified offensive rebound percentage board at 13.4. Joe Mazzulla has asked Robinson to add off-ball screens and more reads to his rim-running this preseason. The offensive glass is the part of his game that needs no adjustment.

He showed both sides in Boston’s 114-93 preseason win over Charlotte on Oct. 14: 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting, seven rebounds and three blocks in 17 minutes. If his minutes climb toward a starter’s load, a rate anywhere near last season’s would put him at the top of the qualified board.
