Schedule source: whynba · Retrieved Oct 9, 2:29 am EDTUnderstand availability labels, update times, and the difference between a report and a prediction.
An injury report is a time-sensitive statement about a player’s status for a particular game. It is not a complete medical record, and it is not a guarantee about what will happen at tipoff. The most useful first question is simple: when was this information updated?
Check that a report applies to the correct matchup and date. A status from a previous game can be accurate for that game and irrelevant for the next one. Teams can update availability after practice, treatment, travel, warmups, or further evaluation.
Labels such as probable, questionable, doubtful, and out communicate different availability expectations. Do not turn those words into a precise probability unless the source itself defines one. A player being questionable does not mean a particular return date has been confirmed.
A report may also list rest, personal reasons, or another explanation instead of an injury. Preserve that distinction. Do not infer a diagnosis or private medical detail from a player’s absence.
Being available does not always mean a player will take on a usual rotation role. A team may discuss a minutes restriction, a conditioning plan, or a game-time decision. If no such detail has been reported by an attributable source, do not invent one.
The report says what is known about availability. Analysis considers what an absence could mean for lineups, ball handling, defensive matchups, or rebounding. Keep those two steps distinct so a reasonable basketball inference is not mistaken for confirmed team news.
Start with the league’s official report and team communications. If a journalist adds new information, look for an attributable statement and an update time. Conflicting reports should remain visibly uncertain until there is stronger evidence.
The linked 2025–26 league page explains that reports are updated throughout the day and that reporting deadlines differ for the second game of a back-to-back. It is a season-specific archive, not a current player-status list. Use the NBA Official directory to find the relevant season and read the latest report for your matchup.
