NBA schedule today, Thursday, October 29: all 3 games with tip times and TV as Ja Morant meets the Grizzlies in Portland

Three games on Thursday, October 29, with Eastern and Cairo tip times, US TV and injuries, led by unbeaten Memphis at unbeaten Portland and Cavaliers at Hawks on NBA TV.

Thursday, October 29, is a light night after Wednesday’s 12-game slate, with three NBA games and six teams in action. The headliner is in Portland, where the 4-0 Memphis Grizzlies visit the 3-0 Trail Blazers in a meeting of two of the league’s unbeaten teams, and Ja Morant faces the team that traded him in June. Cavaliers at Hawks is the national game on NBA TV in the United States, and Kings at Pelicans is a matchup of two winless teams.

Cavaliers at Hawks and Kings at Pelicans tip at 8 p.m. ET, and Grizzlies at Trail Blazers at 10 p.m. ET. In Cairo that is 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday, because Egypt’s clocks go back an hour at midnight on Thursday night. Cleveland, Atlanta and New Orleans all play on Wednesday, so Thursday is the second night of a back-to-back for all three, and their records below are before Wednesday’s games. None of the six Thursday teams had filed the league’s official injury report as of 2:15 p.m. ET Wednesday, so the statuses here come from team announcements, and our injuries page tracks every change before tip.

From Friday, Cairo is on UTC+2 and six hours ahead of New York. The gap goes back to seven hours when clocks in the United States change on Sunday, November 1.

Cavaliers at Hawks, 8 p.m. ET, NBA TV

Cleveland is 2-1 after outlasting Minnesota 127-125 in overtime on Monday, when Donovan Mitchell scored 26, James Harden had 22 points and 9 assists and Anthony Edwards scored 47 for the Wolves. Rookie Meleek Thomas scored 16 in his NBA debut in that game, and the league later said two late calls went Cleveland’s way in error. The Cavaliers host Washington and AJ Dybantsa on Wednesday before flying to Atlanta, and they have ruled out Nae’Qwan Tomlin (low back stress reaction).

Atlanta won its first two games, including 132-125 at Orlando, and then lost twice to Houston in three days, most recently 120-110 on Monday. Jalen Johnson averaged a triple-double through his first three games, with 21.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 10.0 assists. The Hawks host Miami on Wednesday to start a home stand. Mouhamed Gueye (left foot fracture) and Henri Veesaar (torn right ACL) are out, and Aaron Wiggins was probable for Wednesday with a left knee contusion. Game Center.

Kings at Pelicans, 8 p.m. ET

Sacramento is 0-4 after a 130-103 loss in San Antonio on Tuesday, when De’Andre Hunter scored 24, Zach LaVine 22 and Domantas Sabonis had 20 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Rookie Darius Acuff Jr. is averaging 21.5 points, but the Kings have been outscored by 47 points with him on the floor. The Kings are thin up front: Keegan Murray (left ankle capsulitis) will be re-evaluated 10 to 14 days from Monday, Maxime Raynaud (knee) in about two weeks and Dylan Cardwell (calf) in a week, and Ben Simmons is out after surgery on a torn right Achilles tendon. Sacramento is off on Wednesday.

New Orleans is 0-3 and has lost its three games by a combined 10 points: 123-120 to Indiana, 120-119 in Utah and 141-135 in overtime in Denver after blowing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead. Jamahl Mosley is still looking for his first win as the Pelicans’ coach, and the next chance is at home against Denver on Wednesday, so Thursday is the second night of a back-to-back. Yves Missi is out with a left knee bone bruise. Game Center.

Grizzlies at Trail Blazers, 10 p.m. ET

This is Morant’s first regular-season game against Memphis since the Grizzlies sent him to Portland on June 29 for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray, after seven seasons in Memphis. He scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting in Tuesday’s 136-129 win over the Lakers, when Damian Lillard scored 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and sealed it with a step-back three. Deni Avdija added 23 points and Jrue Holiday 22 off the bench. Portland is 3-0 under first-year coach Micah Nori, and our step-by-step look at the Blazers’ start has how the roster came together. Shaedon Sharpe is out after tearing his meniscus in August.

Memphis is 4-0 and has had two days off since it held off Utah 110-105 on Monday. Cedric Coward had 16 points and 11 rebounds in that game, Ty Jerome scored six of his 15 in the last 2:44, and Grant scored 13 off the bench against the team he now meets. Rookie Cameron Boozer is averaging 10.5 rebounds, tied with Ausar Thompson in 2023-24 for the most by a rookie through four games in the last seven seasons. Memphis also beat Sacramento 123-112 on the road. Game Center.
